For Daniël backup power can never fail
For Daniël Löning, troubleshooting starts with the wiring diagram. He measures, checks and works through the problem step by step to find the component that is not doing its job. The systems he works on serve hospitals and data centres, among other sites. Their backup power has to work when the mains supply fails.
As a service engineer, Daniël gets involved once a system has been handed over and is in use. He resolves faults and deals with maintenance issues. “I really enjoy working through things with the diagrams, taking measurements and figuring out which components are faulty.” Finding the cause, fixing it and leaving the customer reassured. That is what his work comes down to.
From car engines to backup power across the Netherlands
Before joining Zwart, he spent fifteen years as a car mechanic. He knew engines, but wanted to develop his skills in electrical engineering. During his first two weeks in the test room, he saw just how big this new world was. There stood the largest generators Zwart supplies. “That was when I thought: wow.” He now takes courses to learn more about fault diagnosis, controls, software and electrical engineering.
His work takes him all over the Netherlands. From a hospital to an office, from a data centre to a defence or police site. “Every day is different. I like that. It never gets boring.” The location changes. The need to keep things running stays the same.
